The Carterville City Council has adopted the upcoming state of Illinois regulations of electric bikes and electric micromobility devices in a new City Ordinance. City Hall, the Police Department, and Council members have received multiple complaints and concerns of the safety of e-bike operators, pedestrians, and drivers in Carterville. The majority of the Illinois regulations become effective statewide on January 1, 2027 but the City Ordinance is effective August 1, 2026.
